Hi All

We have a very big cognos report. When we generate it in excel , file size is around 20 -25  MB. We are scheduling this report and sending output by email. But as we can see due to big size report output is not going through Email server.
I will appreciate, if someone help  me to solve this problem and give me valuable ideas.

Thanks

Ari

Hi

What does the report do?  You have to ask whether everyone you're sending it too is using the whole report.  Can it be split into smaller version of the report?  If you can find a way to make it more focused you could look at generating some report views orr maybe bursting it so the users only get to see the relevant part of the report.

Hi
Thanks for your reply. It is just a list report with lots of data in it. We tried all that. But user want to get everything.

They are fine , if i send them multiple excel files.

You could look into saving the report to a directory, then the user could go to the directory to open it and this would avoid the file being too big for email.

Thanks for your reply .

But user want to get reports into inbox only.

Perhaps consider advising the user that Cognos is not an ETL tool and, furthermore, an email inbox is not an ideal target for ETL processes.

Generally I try to ask users who want large extracts what they intend to do with the data once they get it. From there you can get to the essence of their "real" requirements for reporting.

Or send them multiple files since you indicated they are ok with that.

NO User can possibly NEED a 25MB report... you need to cut it into smaller peices, or save to a network folder.

What about sending a Link to the report output?
