HI Friends,

I am really getting confused and stuck for the migration can someone suggest on below issues.

1) Can we migrate entire content store from 8.2 to 10.1 at once ? Is it suggestible ?
Does this create same replica as 8.2 in 10.1 ? Or we need to move folder by folder ?

Please suggest  from where we need to begin...whether we need to migrate users first or folders ?

Hi,

Yes - you can migrate the entire content store in one go if you wish to. The safest bet is to create a full content store reployment in 8.2, set up a new empty content store in 10.1, then import the content from 8.2.

After this, you can use Deployment Manager to test and compare the reports in 8.2 and 10.1 to make sure that all the reports still work as expected and render in the same way.

Regards,

MF.

Interesting this is one of those times where IBM documentation contradicts itself as the installation and Configuration guide for 10.1 as with earlier version still recommends using deployments to transfer content.

I guess it depends on how thorough you want to be and whether you wish, as the planning process recommends, to use the upgrade as a opportunity to clear out any dead wood, test and fix any issues prior to deployment on the new system.

If your planning to upgrade inplace i.e use the existing directories then I would recommend using the more thorough approach found in the install and configuration guide to test everything before upgrade.

If your installing to a new location and will be running the two versions in parallel then this gives you a bit more freedom.

I would always use the deployment method given the choice. It negates the occasional issues encountered if the upgrade of an existing content store fails. This is just my personal opinion, of course, and like every other suggestion I make, should be treated with extreme skepticism! :)

Cheers!

Deployments are still the recommended path - this looks like a flyer cobbled together for a presentation/roadshow.  The wording on the second and seventh questions could be open to interpretation and may actually being trying to highlight the batch process of upgrades in opposition to some notion of manual copy/paste.  It talks about multi-version installs and Lifecycle manager, but if you upgrade the database holding the content store, neither of those are an option.
