Can't connect Cognos 10.1 to Oracle 8i

Hi Guys

I am trying to connect Cognos 10.1.0 FP1 running on Windows 2008 64 bit to an Oracle 8i 8.1.7 database. I am using the 32 bit Oracle 10g ODBC client 8.2.

I can connect (via SQL+) the Oracle client to the database. I can test successfully the ODBC datasource connection to the database. When I test the connection from Cognos Administration (using the same credentials), I get:

UDA-SQL-0129 Invalid login information was detected by the underlying database.
[Oracle][ODBC][Ora] ORA012154: TNS could not resolve the connect identifier specified

For additional information, I have proved the connection to an Oracle 11g database via ODBC, but this also fails from Cognos.

Anything I am missing?

Thanks in advance

Ian

Not supported.

But in the interest of tryiong to get you going, try the 32bit Oracle 9i client. Still won't be supported but at least you can try to get connected.

Couple of thoughts:

Do you get a good tnsping from the command-line?
Do you have other Oracle tools installed?  Check the PATH variable to make sure the 32-bit library is called first
Is it reading the wrong tns.ora (or whatever that is called, never remember)

Thanks for the replies.

Grim: I'll give the 9 client a go - nothing to lose I guess!

SomeClown:
tnsping is fine
The PATH variable is fine - 10 client is first
TNSNAMES is also fine

The Oracle installation has been checked by one of our Oracle DBA's, who gave it a clean bill of health.

Houston, we have a problem ....

Problem resolved.
Upgraded the Oracle ODBC driver on the Cognos server to 10.02.0.3, then patched to 10.02.0.5 (puzzingly it shows as 10.02.0.4  ::)  )
Cognos 10.1 now connects to Oracle 8.1.7 and Oracle 9.2.0   :D
