iam not able to create columns

Hi to all

i brought required tables from database  in to FM for the report

in one table contains BAL_TYPE COLUMN(balance types  CONTAION VALUES  like 1,2,34,52,60)

now i want to use this BAL_TYPES AS Different colums in my reports, iam not able to filter it.

please help me

If this is a non-fact, then set usage to attribute. Cognos has the nasty habit of setting numerical values (except keys) to usage fact. (Matter of fact, the default is such that all dataitems can be used as filters). What do you mean by 'Different columns' ?

if i set data item  usage property as attribute one column data will disply , if drag one more  column it wont display any data

in one table contains Column Name  Is  BAL_TYPE (This BAL_TYPE Contains VALUES  like 1,2,3,4,,60)
here 1 means EOP ,2 means  AVERAGE , 3 means P&L)
Now Iwant to display as columns, iam not able to differentiate



Balance types(which shown in the bracket) different colums means 1 is one column, 2 is  another column like that in the report

If iam wrong please correct me
