We are currently in the process of changing our cognos architecture due to poor performance

We re getting 4 servers
1 server will be the IIS and gateway
1 server will only contain the the content manager
The 2 others will do all the rest

Does anybody has documentation on hos to install and configure the content manager on a separate server
What cognos services need to stay up on this machine

Thank you for your help

Hi,

we have three tier architecture.
>webserver
>application server
>dat server

1st step)

>insert cognos cd
>then open ibm cognos bi server
>open win32
>double click on issetup
> select language
>select installation location
>then click next under component only enable gateway
>then click next
>gateway will install in that system
>make sure IIS instlled or not in that system where your installing gatway
>if IIS is not installed install it(only in gateway system)

2nd step)
>repeat the same thing in second system
>but in the component selection step only select dispatcher
>then click next
> dispatcher will install

3rd step)

>repeat the same steps
>now in component selection only select content manger
>then click next

4thstep)

>now we have to configure content manger and gateway to dispather
>for this  go to start>all programs>ibm cognos>under ibm cognos ibm cogonos configuration
>after opening that ibm cognos configuration
>select environment under gateway settings
>insted of 'localhost' replace it with system ip where your gateway was installed(only remove localhost donot remove any thing)

5thstep)
>then select other uri settings
>here we have to configure content manger
>repeat the same thing
>remove the local host  and replace it with system ip where you content manger is installed(only remove localhost do not delete any thing)

6thstep)
>now we have to configure database to ibm cognos
>for this in cognos configuration
>under environment panel you will find an option with name DATA ACCESS under DATA ACCESS you will find content manger
>select CONTENT MANGER under content manger you will find default content store
>right click on that delete it
>now again right click on content manger >create>newresourse>give aname it>and specify your database type(for eg;sql, oracle)
>on the right side panel give your datbase name
>and give id and password

7th step)

>now in cognos configration save at the top side you will find a run button
>before running it will ask for save
>save it
>while running you will get an error
>like TESTMAIL server error just click on continue
>finally it wiil finish

before running this make sure all firewalls disabled or not.if firewallls enabled in all systems it will restrict to connect .so disable in all systems.

8th step)

>now open gateway system
>goto control panel
>open administrative tools in control panel
>open iis
>in iss  website> default websites
>right click on default websites>go to new >create new virtual directory
>name it like cognos8(if your using cognos 10 name it like cognos10)
>then click next
>then assign following path

c/programfiles/cognos/c8/webcontent

click ok

>now right click on virtual directory which you create before then again select  create new virtual directory
>name it like CGI-BIN
>then click next
>give path as follows

c/programfiles/cognos/c8/cgi-bin

then click finish save it

9th step)
>now go open internet explore
>there type uri as follows

http://YOURIP/cognos8(or)cognos10

>cognos will open

10th step)

>now open cognos administration
>under cognos configuration
>create a new data source connection to ur DB
>now you can use it

you can install FM any where on these systems
