Dear All:

Kuwait National Petroleum Company has recently implemeted Cognos Planning 8 and its about to start its first budget cycle.
I would like to know D-List where consultant are saying that we can not filter the D-List items based on the Organization code against which user is contributing. The user is looking the exhaustive list of Positions but he needs to know the positions pertaining to his/her organization/department.

I would be happy if some body can provide me the solution for this problem.

Hi Abdulillah,

Please confirm in which product is the filter desired in?  Analyst, or Contributor?

If Analyst, unfortunately the entire list will be presented.  There is no 'dynamic' filer like in Excel to sort based on data.

If in Contributor, access tables can be placed on specific e-list items to hide columns and rows.  This would be an e-list configuration that would not be customizeable on a per user basis.  Anyone that opens that node will see the exact same listing of columns and rows.

Another way this could be somewhat accomplished would be to modify the hierarchy in Analyst;  each 'grouping' of organization codes could be rolled up to a parent (subtotal in analyst).  When this is rendered on the contributor front end, a plus sign will be placed beside the parent that can be expanded and collapsed.   So long as each member in the dimension (in analyst) only rolls up to one parent this expansion and contraction of parent items will be maintained.  It isn't the prettiest way to possibly accomplish what you're looking to do, but it might get the job done.

Thanks ericlfg for your reply.
This is contributor and your solution could be useful, at least we will not see the entire list of 2000 positions we have, rather will see 100 departments and expand will show the positions under that departments.

Thanks for the suggestion.
