Reinstall Cognos 10 Developer Edition

I teach dimensional modeling at a university for applied sciences. To demonstrate the power of dimensional models in BI tools, I would like to show Cognos 10 Developer Edition with the Cognos 10 samples on my laptop. Is it possible to uninstall and reinstall the trial package after 30 days (re-installation on a clean virtual machine is not a problem)?

Hi,

I'm not sure but I would presume not as there is usually something lurking in your system that will flag a previous install.

As you're an educational institution though it may be worthwhile having a conversation with IBM directly and seeing if you can get something organised on a free or much reduced basis.

I don't understand the IBM approach with the trial period. Thirty days does seem very limiting even if your a commercial organisation with the resources to test it properly.  You can buy a full developer edition of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 for $50 on Amazon or Oracle allow a free download of their software as long as it is for non commercial use.

In that respect IBM seem a little bit behind the curve if they want to develop a core of users, such as your students, who want to learn, understand and I would imagine in their future careers subsequently promote the features of the product.

Good luck

I agree on the time limit. Even a developer version with a concurrent user limit would be so much better!

I'll just give it at try and if it flags a previous installation I can still try a reinstallation of the operating system (or a snapshot of a virtual machine, still have an educational license for Windows 2003R2).
I will also try to contact IBM on this matter, that might be a good idea.

Just to let everyone know.  My trial expired, (or was going to in one day) so I backed up my data, Uninstalled C10 from Add/Remove Programs, reinstalled the Demo.    I now have a 30 Day trial again.   From the backup> reinstall> restore took about 2 hours so not too bad for a 30 day refresh till you are ready to buy C10.
