Render Report Studio report as XLS file

Greetings!

Is there any way to get an excel file from a Cognos 8 RS report in order to automatically modify this excel file with macro (add complex calculations, formatting, etc)? I guess that I can do it with the SDK, do I? But I'm interested in less sophisticated method. The problem is that any XLS-file rendered as object encapsulated in MHT format. There is no file entity I can work with.

Any suggestions?

Huh?

You can easily run the report with XLS output.  Then you can modify the file however you want.. It doesnt include the source data or report spec, however, if thats what you want.

I'm not sure I get what you are asking, unless you are simply looking to execute the report in Excel format instead of HTML/PDF... that is just clicking the "play" button's drop down and selecting XLS.

Cheers,

Mike

Ok, maybe I explained my problem incorrectly, sorry.

The point is I need to modify some XLS-report before user will get it (by simple pressin' that mystical "PLAY" buttonÃ,  ;) ). Which method I can use? It is a web architecture, not a file-client, so I have to "squeeze" into creation process or modify this file in precise moment. So how can I do this?

Oh, gotcha.

I dont know of a way to embed macros/formulas within the report that will pass to excel.  Possibly the SDK, which is very flexible but you need a developer to check that out for you.

Have you tried the different Excel output versions to not get the MHT version?

Cheers,

Mike

Try to run the report with options and email it to yourself.  You will get the xls file as an attachement.  I think what your trying to do is save the web page itself (hence the .mht extension)

Have you looked at Cognos Office Connection?? This could perhaps do the trick....
