I hope this is just because it's the end of a long day, but I was attempting what should be a no-brainer.  In the List Column Title cell class (.lt) I changed the background color from the light blue Cognos has to a darker blue to reflect a corporate branding color.

The issue is that once I make this change (in all GlobalReportStyles.css files the documentation say to - which is 2 on our web server and two on the cognos server), and restarting all services, and being completely out of RS and CC, and logging back in, the styles still come up the same old light blue they were before (when you drag over some columns and create a new list report the column header cells are defaulted to the "List Column Title cell" global class which specifies said background color of light blue). :'(

When I reference this stylesheet in a dummy web page as a test with something like <td class=lt>fdafdsdfsa</td>, the background color change is reflected immediately.

Does cog somehow cache this setting (but I restarted services???) or is there another set of style sheet(s) that could possibly override the globalreportsyles.css? :o

I've gotten freeze column headers to work great when using a local class and referencing the column header cells to that class, and I am going to attempt to make this a global change.  But I started with a simple color change to no affect  ::)

I'm going for the absolute obvious here.. but did you try clearing browser cache? There's a good chance that the old css is cached.

In our experience there is no issue with caching of these .css files. However, the globalreportstyles.css existed in 2 places with early 8 versions, but in 4 places in late 8 versions. Are you sure you made update to the stylesheet in all places?

@Blom, yes, I am aware of the 4 locations as per the original post.  To keep things easy I just set up shortcuts on my desktop to all those folder locations and keep one copy of the .css and save to all four locations.

@Melee, you are right my friend, like a dumba$$ I deleted the stylesheet from my Temp Inet Folder but did not close and restart my RS app browser, I only opened a new blank report.  You must delete the .css from your cache and completely restart the browser(s).  Well, thats why I posted the caviot that it was a long day  :D

The next step is to get a new style added to the GlobalReportStyles.css to show up in the "Global Classes" picklist.  I know there is an XML file that contains the location/language specific "friendly names" mapping for properties and classes and hope that's the key.

Thanks for the responses!

It happens a lot! Usually what I'll do is inspect the CSS with Firebug, and if it's not there and everything else looks alright, I'll clear cache or Ctrl+F5 and magically everything is better :)

"Applaud" given!

Yes, I need to get off my duff and load RapidCSS (or Firebug) on this machine.  Right now I'm using good 'ole "Microsoft Visual Notepad"  :-)
