Hi,

I am getting an error as
"The IBM Cognos gateway is unable to connect to the IBM Cognos BI server. The server may be unavailable or the gateway may not be correctly configured"

for launching Cognos Framework manager and gateway URI. But the Cognos service up and running .

please suggest me solution to resolve this

    * Thanks

cognostechie

It's the gateway setting in Cognos configuration. Where is the IIS pointed to and what is the virtual directory name that points to Cognos 10? and what does the full connection string say in the configuratiion?

antexity

I'm having the same issue,   I installed it on two PC's with no issues,  now I installed Cognos on a Virtual Environment on a server and get this error when performing Part 2 of the Cognos installation  (manager, framework etc...) Modules.

If cognostechie idea "It's the gateway setting in Cognos configuration. Where is the IIS pointed to and what is the virtual directory name that points to Cognos 10? and what does the full connection string say in the configuratiion"  is the solution I have no clue where to check that.

Thanks in advance!

Let me rephrase the error,  Its not the gateway error its this

Unable to connect to the server. Either the server is down at this moment or you are experiencing network problems.

Thanks!

Hi jdonais,

I can't comment on network issues as that is an issue for your nextwork team although you can do the normal ping test etc if you have a distributed environment. If you want to test the application tier i.e. the dispatcher and content manager then issue the command

http://yourcomputername:port/p2pd/servlet. e.g. http://computera.internal.mycompany.com:9300/p2pd/servlet.  If this is running successfully then you will get a screen displaying as such.  This indicates your dispatcher is ok and then concentrate on your web server.  If not you need to focus on that part of the installation by testing the access to  the content store database and then if that is ok your application server (disptacher & content mansger)

In terms of IIS settings and configuration mentioned by Cognostechie you would, as part of the installation, set up a couple of virtual directories in IIS i.e Cognos and cgi-bin.

In Cognos configuration the GateWay URI should reflect this e.g.: http://yourcomputername:80/ibmcognos/cgi-bin/cognos.cgi.

Rob

Hi,

Possibly it could be an issue with your content store but is there any additional information held in the cogserver.log file.  This is located in the installation\logs directory.  This should give you more details of what the potential issue is.

Is it a single server installation or a distributed environment with your content manager seperated from the application tier?

Kind regards

Rob

Hi Rob,

I didn't find a cogserver.log file (did a search as well)  not sure if that log is located in C10.  What I installed is a Development C10 Demo thats on IBM website.

I installed this locally on my PC and a VM image on my desktop with no issues.  My sysadmin created a VM Environment on a server as I needed better performance and this is when im having issues.  I worked with the Net Admin this morning regarding Firewalls and everything and everything is good on their side, nothing is blocking the app.  So now im here  :)

I looked at the other logs listed on ../logs and didn't see anything regarding the installation.

I get this popup

Connection failure

Unable to connect to the server. Either the server is down at this moment or you are experiencing network problems. Please try again later.

and here is a screenshot of the installation page and I tried to incl everything...

Thanks!

Hi,

I must admit I haven't looked at the trial edition although I did try and download it, but the IBM site  doesn't seem to be playing ball at the moment.  Ignore my points about  content stores as they won't be relevant here as I'm presuming the trial edition will use the derby content store instead.

What I did notice though was that the stated o/s for the trial edition is Windows XP professional and although other flavours such as Windows 7 may work I'm not sure if loading it onto a server o/s such as Windows 2003/2008 will work for this edition. Does the Install and Configuration guide for this edition state what the allowable o/s requirements are?

Kind Regards

Rob

HI,
That could be it,  It worked great on Windows 7,  but this is the first time on Windows 2008..  Ill check into that.

Thanks Rob,

Just tried Windows 2003 Server 32bit,  (Supported) and still doesnt work,  Same issue as the screenshot above.  I have Java installed as well.   Firewall is off.  This is the just first stage of the installation.

Im on step 7 of the instructions:

Steps
1. Double-click install.exe to start the installation wizard.
The wizard takes a few moments to initialize, install temporary files, prepare for the deployment
and to create the uninstallation program settings.
2. On the Software License Agreement page, accept the agreement, and Next.
3. On the Choose Install Folder page, enter the location where you want the product installed,
and click Next.
4. On the Choose Shortcut Folder page, select the options you want, and click Next.
5. On the Configuration page, do the following:
● Select the range of port numbers you want Developer Edition to use.
Ensure that you select a range that will not conflict with any other products you have
installed on your computer. If any port numbers conflict with other software, the installation
will not be successful.
If you are unsure, use the default values.
● Enter the account information for the administrator user.
You can leave the name as administrator or you can change it to another name. We recommend
you provide a password, and that you record it in a secure place.
6. Click Next.
7. On the Pre-Installation Summary page, click Install.
After the installation wizard finishes, you can launch IBM Cognos BI Developer Edition Manager.
The manager allows you to install, configure, and start the IBM Cognos BI services, and install
Framework Manager. You will need both the BI Suite and Framework Manager components to
use IBM Cognos BI.
Step 7 install the components of cognos as seen in my SCreenshot in my previous posts.   No issues on my Laptop or in VM on my Desktop but issues now on a VM on a server.  The Net Admin guys stated everything is good on their end.  Does anyone know what it might be?

Error from the Window Popup after the message "Connecting to server..."

Connection failure

Unable to connect to the server. Either the server is down at this moment or you are experiencing network problems. Please try again late
r.

and when I click the logs button, I receive this error:

"The Dispatcher is down and cannot service the request at this time"

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Thank you
Jonathan

Found the solution...  lots of troubleshooting (Learned a lot due to this).  For some reason,  I re-downloaded the trial version today, extracted the data and reinstalled and everything worked ( I tried this method three times last week with no success).  While troubleshooting this morning, I found a log that stated could not install some files due corrupted files (log files were located on root of c:/), so I decided AGAIN to re-download/install, log file looked good and everything is working.   Not sure what happened, maybe IBM had a bad package and reuploaded a new one this weekend.

I wanted to say thanks to everyone that helped me out!

Hi,

Glad you have got it sorted.  Just managed to download the trial tonight to try and replicate the issue as I couldn't download it last week so perhaps that was the issue and a fix was going in.

Cheers

Hi all,

I am having the same issue. I'm using Cognos 10.

QuoteUnable to access service at URL:
http://localhost:80/ibmcognos/cgi-bin/cognos.cgi?b_action=xts.run&m=portal/close.xts
Please check that your gateway URI information is configured correctly and that the service is available.
For further information please contact your service administrator.

I refer to this section from IBM's help file:
Quote3.In the Properties window, in the Gateway URI box, type the appropriate value:
◦To use ISAPI, replace cognos.cgi with cognosisapi.dll.
◦To use apache_mod, replace cognos.cgi with mod_cognos.dll.
◦To use a servlet gateway, type the following:
http[s]://host:port/context_name/servlet/Gateway
Note:context_name is the name you assigned to the ServletGateway Web application when you deployed the ServletGateway WAR file.

◦If you are not using a Web server, to use the dispatcher as the gateway, type the following:
http[s]://host:port/p2pd/servlet/dispatch

As you see in my attachment, there is no option to change cognos.cgi and the rest (2 screenshots in one).

I solved the issue recently by changing the virtual directory.

Hi,

I also installed Cognos 10 BI Developer Edition in a Windows XP SP3 VM using Apache as a webserver. The installation went smoothly and reported no problems. When I tried to connect to http://localhost:9300/cognos_developer/manager/main.html, I got the error "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at localhost:9300".

I would appreciate it if any member with a working trial version could send me the MD5 hash of the setup file. The MD5 hash of czs56en.tar.gz on my computer is 323384b78acffad5c2f9dd106ed7e2fb.
