My users are asking me to show the report name as a proper naming convention while exporting the report into Excel.
By default it gives a junk name like the following?

svdM4GMGqhvlC4MvqdMdy4sMMyCG9G8Mq2M9C2I4.xlsx

How to change it to so it could use the same name as the saved report name?

Thanks in advance for your help...

Lynn

The only way I know to achieve this is to run the report from Cognos Connection and save the report (rather than view it now). Once it runs click on the view report outputs icon, then click the download icon.

Personally I don't think this approach is an improvement over just putting in a reasonable name to replace the crazy thing that shows up by default. Also multiple users saving and permissions issues may make saving to the content store a poor choice.

I tell users to just put in a name and be thankful they are not likely to get stuck at a cocktail party talking with the guy who came up with the approach for those indecipherable default names. On a more serious note, I do tell them that it is a good way to remind them to include some version information as part of the file name since they often want to collect snapshots they download without overwriting previous downloads.
