We are starting to look into using data management services tasks to launch builds in Data Manager.  With the upgrade to Cognos 8.4 and moving from a Linux to a Windows platform, we have found that remotely executing builds is not supported on a 64 bit OS.  We would like to utilize the ability to publish these jobs as tasks in Cognos Connection then execute.

It seems pretty straightforward to publish tasks to Cognos Connection, but we are running into one issue.  In all of the jobs we execute, we have to pass parameters into the builds (if you were to manually execute a jobstream, it would be the Additional Options field located at the bottom of the dialog box).  I do not see any way of passing these parameters into the jobs either as they are published or after they are published to Cognos Connection.  Has anyone had any experience with this and found a way to get this to work?

Hi,

As far as I'm aware, the -V switch to pass in variable values to a build/jobstream is a command-line option only.  If you are looking to launch your jobstreams/builds as data movement tasks via the data movement service on a C8 server, you will need to change your logic slightly - you could perhaps have the variables set based on system environment variables rather than the -V command parameter?  Either that, or maybe use an Event Studio agent to set values into a database table via a stored procedure then launch the data movement task, then have your builds/jobstreams in the data movement task pick up their values from the table?

If neither of these is suitable, can you provide more detail on exactly what you need to?  If so, we may be able to suggest alternatives...

Cheers!
