I currently have Cognos 8.3 installed on port 9400...I started through the steps to install 8.4.1, got all the way to the creating the Namespaces in Cognos Configuration, and then clicked to save and start the Cognos Service.  I get an error. :'(  At that point I change the current configuration port to 9300 so we can run both at the same time for testing before we move to 8.4.1...could setting up 8.4.1 on the same port as our current install have created this error?????

Can I fix by simply dropping the table causing the error??  ???

Did you create a new schema for 8.4.1 or using the earlier Content Store of 8.3 ??

Anke

I created new.
All of the tests in the Configuration pass, but the Service fails to start.  I have the Service log on with a Local System Account....should I have created an account specifically for the Service?

I don't know what's hapenning but port 9400 cannot be the same for two versions. That's for sure. Port 80 can be the same but not 9400.

I am using port 9400 for one version and 9300 for the other version.  I also created an account specifically for this service (copied security same as other Cognos service)..Service still will not start...errors in CBS_START.log

You may have already done this but just to confirm that you have different port numbers for the Dispatcher (change all dispatcher uri), Shutdown port and log server.
We have the following things on different port number on our multiple instances:
Dispatcher URIs (all of them).
Content Manager URIs.
Log server port number.
Shutdown port number.

Also, use a login for content store that can create tables.

Anke

Yes, I have all of those setting changed in the configuration.

It is so odd.  When I try to start the service, it says the service failed to start...error CFG_ERR_0106.  Then, when I look at the service, it says it is running...

Hi,

What database are you using for your content store for the 8.4.1 instance?  Is the database you are using definitely not already in use as the 8.3 content store?

If you go into Cognos Configuration and use the Test function on the content store configuration, does it report any errors?

If all else fails, try creating an entirely new content store database and pointing to this in your 8.4.1 configuration.

Regards,

MF.
