Hi All,

I'm using Cognos Express 9.0 and using TM1 cubes as the data source.

I'm trying to create a map of the World in Report Studio that shows all the countries(in different colours) based on their net revenue.

Is this possible with the basic capabilities of Cognos maps or does one have to have MapInfo or Map Manager in order to accomplish this task?

Much appreciated!!!

MFGF

Hi,

These work in exactly the same way as maps in Cognos 8.  As long as the regions in your TM1 cube match the data points in the map, you should be fine.  If they don't match, the best bet is to use Map Manager to add an alias for each region which ties in with the regions in your TM1 cube.

MF.

Hi,

Thanks MF for both the replies(registry one as well)  :)

Actually I am new to Cognos Express and am finding it difficult to find my way around in Report Studio.

The hierachy of the Region Dimension is :

World ->  America   -> North America ->  United States
                                                        Canada
                           -> South America ->  Brazil
                                                         Chile
                                                         Argentina

So when I try to add North America to the "Location" option in map , it does not work. But when I add United States it shows me the net income.

It would be greatly appreciated if you could help me out or point me in right direction. Tried doing IBM courses but was nt of much help. Its based on relational data whereas I need info on dimensionally modelled data.

Thanks!

I guess this means your map does not have a data point for "North America".

If you want a list of specific countries to be used in the map, try dragging a Query Calculation to the "Location" field, and set the expression to be a set of the desired members eg set([United States],[Canada],[Brazil],[Chile],[Argentina])

Hint - when building the expression, drag the country members into the expression from the package tree to make sure that the members are included as part of your query).

Hello,
yes it is important to create a set of members.

In Cognos are some predefined maps.
If you need some other maps (higher detail of the map, add countries or cities, specific custom maps, 3D objects, diagrams), you can contact company BUSINESS MAPS.

hi

This is Williams.. I saw your post in the COGNOISE and fixed the problem of that gentleman..

I'm looking to implement Cognos MAPS object into a report.

I have following values in a query. Like street, City, State, Country.

City : North Ridge
State : California
Country : United States

I'm using this in MAPS object, but not getting any data out of that.. can you help me with this..

Thanks

MFGF

What are the data points defined as in the map you are using?  Try opening the map file in map manager if you're unsure.  If the inbuilt data points don't match your City/State/Country names (or codes) then you can manually add these as aliases for each point where relevant, then save the map.
