Hi,

The definition of a "Professional Author" is:

IBM Cognos 8 Business Intelligence Professional Author
For each user authorization acquired, You may use the Program to: (i) access the Cognos Connection Portal to select reports, view reports and set personal preferences (for languages, time zones etc.); (ii) run and schedule reports created by a licensed IBM Cognos Business Intelligence Studio module, interact with prompts, output the reports to other formats such as PDF and CSV, subscribe to a scheduled report, create and manage report folders and portal pages and use the Cognos Connection Portal to create and consume portal pages, including use of all of the portlet types provided with Cognos Connection, personalize standard reports, and receive Event Studio notifications and use the Cognos Go! Office module; (iii) use the IBM Cognos 8 Go! Dashboard module to assemble and/or consume a dashboard; (iv) use the Go! Search module for full text searching and associated indexing for both dynamic and static content; and (v) use the Query Studio and Report Studio modules (including, but not limited to Express Authoring Mode) and functionality. You will configure the Program to ensure that those users are restricted from using any other Program functionality.

So, from this you can see that a Professional Author license does not allow Analysis Studio access.

The Author role in the Cognos namespace is most likely intended to tie in to the "Professional" license:

IBM Cognos 8 Business Intelligence Professional
Office module; (iii) use the IBM Cognos Go! Dashboard module to assemble and/or consume a dashboard; (iv) use the Go! Search module for full text searching and associated indexing for both dynamic and static content; (v) use the Query Studio, Report Studio (including, but not limited to Express Authoring Mode), Analysis Studio, Metric Studio, Metric Designer and Event Studio modules and functionality; and (vi) use the Transformer module and functionality on Windows platforms only. You will configure the Program to ensure that those users are restricted from using any other Program functionality.

Hope that helps!

So....which role can we use to restrict users for/with "Professional Author" license ?

Please clarify.

Thank you for helping...

MFGF

Hi,

If you do not have a predefined role with the correct capabilities already, create a new role, then allocate the relevant capabilities to it.

Please guide me which permissions to give when I create new role for the user to limit access allowed by "Professional Author" license.

Thank you for your help.

Hi,

The license definition for Professional Author should be used as a guide.  In other words, when setting up a role for the Professional Author license, grant access capabilities to use Query Studio, both Report Studio Express Mode and Report Studio Professional Mode, Cognos Viewer, Scheduling etc.
