hi

I am fairly new to cognos and framework manager. We have a reporting package which we develop reports from which is based on a framework model and package. I feel there are some issues with this model which i want to work on without interupting the live system. I want to create a second package lets say called test and pubvlish this out so that i can use report studio to access. I then can make changes in the model / publish and test my results in report studio.

Can anyone provide some steps as to publish this out to a new package and access through report studio

You can create a copy of the package in the FM model and publish this to the content store, making sure you use another name for this package. You can then link an existing report (or a copy of a report) to this new package and test. This will not effect other reports that run on the existing package whatsoever..

You cannot paste onto the package itself. you need to select the parent (packages) and then perform the paste action. The same goes for all other objects within the framework, always navigate to one level higher to perform the paste.
You can always create a package from scratch and define the same contents as the original package..

If it's not too complicated, I just Save As in Framework Manager, save it as a different name, then change the package name.  Then you have an exact copy to work from when you publish the new package.
