This will give you a virtual Bell Canada 8830 Blackberry and a private version of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server MDS. If you get any Windows prompts asking you to confirm whether to “unblock”, answer “Yes”. I've been successful getting Go Mobile to work with the 8830 World phone simulator and several earlier versions. I have not been able to get it to work with the beta Storm simulator.

  • Download and install JDK 1.5 or later.
  • Download and install BlackBerry_JDE_4.3.0 which installs the MDS Simulator.
  • Download and install Blackberry_Simulators_4.2.2.123_8830-Bell to install the 8830 simulator. At this point you have the simulator SW installed. The next few steps will set up the device and install GoMo.
  • Go to the start menu and launch “All Programs/Research in Motion/Blackberry JDE 4.3.0/MDS”. This launches the MDS simulator. Once launched, you can minimize the MDS command window but do not close it as this will cut off communications between the simulator and everything else.
  • Go to the start menu and launch “All Programs/Research in Motion/Blackberry Device Simulators 4.2.2/4.2.2.123/8830-Bell”. This launches the 8830 phone simulator.
  • When the 8830 simulator launches, run the Setup Wizard to properly set the date and time on your “phone”. It also gives you some practice driving the 8830 via the keyboard/mouse which takes some getting used to. This is important as it affects timestamps in the Go Mobile inbox.
  • When ready, go to the File menu at the top of the 8830 simulator window and select “Load Java Program” and load the following 2 files, one at a time, in the order shown. These files can be found in the “rim_desktop/4.2” folder

  • cognos_mobile.cod
  • cognos_mobile_settings.cod
  • When you’ve loaded the client, go to the 8830 Simulator window and select the File/Reset menu item. This restarts the 8830 simulator and activates the Cognos client.
  • At this point, you’re ready to launch Go! Mobile and log in with your Cognos credentials.
