Cannot find the FM model

Recently we changed database servers and I've updated all ODBC DSNs and connections except in one report that was written a few years ago and the author is not available.  I cannot find the report package on the ETL server (we have seperate database, ETL, application and IIS servers), and the information that I have, through the report is:

Package path is /content/package[@name='Financial Services - Mileage Report']/model[@name='model']
Path is [IFX-servername]
Ref is [IFX-servername]

What I can do is edit the report but it's using the package that is apparently feeding off of the old database.

Any thoughts on how to find the package?  Is it in there that I need to change the DSN to point to the new database?  When a report is executed, is it using the ODBC DSN from the ETL, the application or the web server?

I managed to find it buried in a vaguely related model.

The question remains though, is it possible to unearth a FM model with the information I had?

Hey,

I'm not really following your question.  If you've lost your model, then I would say it's gone for good unless you've done backups.

As far as the DSN, I assume it uses the data source connection that you've set up inside Cognos Administration.  So if you've changed your servers, you should be able to just modify the data source connection in Cognos Admin.  So technically, you wouldn't of needed the framework model if you've changed your servers.

It's not so much that the model is/was lost, but I was starting from a broken report (in Report Studio) and only had the package name and had to work my way backwards to find the original FM model.  It was within a package generated in another model and it was purely trial and error (i.e. opening up every model on the server) that allowed me to find it.

As for the data source (we're using 8.2) it's in Framework Manager.  Even though I've updated the system DSN (through the Window's Admin Tools) ODBC connections, when I try test data in the model, I'm still pulling data from the old server (I know this because the latest data is from the server cut-over date).

Is there a way to update that data source connection within FM?  Shouldn't it be automatic if I've changed the system DSN?

twlarsen, you were right.  Thanks!  The connection was to the old server and then I also had to reset the signon password.  Phew, that one is now done.

Glad you got it fixed!

As for your first question about backtracking to find the FM Model...Let's just say I don't envy anyone who has to do that.  I can't think of any other suggestion besides the trial and error of opening up every model.
