Hello Guys,

I have Cognos 8 installed on my computer and there is another Cognos installation on our development server.

My question is, is it possible to work on FM locally on my machine and then publish the packages on both environments ( my local environment and our development server ) in the same time ?

I know this has something to do with the dispatchers but is it possible to define both servers on my local environment?

Thanks ..

When you initially installed FM and hit the save button, you created an encrypted handshake between your local FM and the server.
That means you login into that Bi server, and can only deploy to that.
Easiest way is to install another FM instance installed in it's own directory and pointing to your other server to redeploy your just created package.

I've always found it odd that FM uses the same Cognos Config tool as the Cognos Server install (and by default, they install to the same dir).

I usually install them to separate directories (e.g. c:\tools\cognos\c8.3 and c:\tools\cognos\c8.3-fm), so I can easily switch my FM between different Cognos instances, without messing with local BI server's config.

Thank you smiley, bizint for the information.

I guess I will have to install another instance of the Framework Manager.

But, what I have a question on my mind, what if I use the local FM manager to build my models and before publishing the packages I changed the dispatcher and Gateway information in the Configuration. Will this help me to publish into the other server ?

Thanks ..

Of course this will work.
Most people find the manual labour into switching to much, and prefer to install it again.
But of switching works for you, be my guest.

Thanks dutchcogtechie ..

Installing another instance is really the easiest way.
