Selection list for a string element?

I have recently started using TM1 and came from a Cognos EP world.
In EP you can format a d-list item with another d-list which effectively gives the user the ability to select a value for a cell from a list of items.
Is this capability available in TM1?
Thanks

This depends very much on the application you are building and the interface you are using.

TM1 supports multiple user interfaces; perspectives cube viewer, TM1 Web, Executive Viewer and Excel more or less out of the box, also the "Brazil" interface (i.e. Contributor 8.4) is rumoured to be just around the corner, just how soon who knows ...  or you could build a custom .Net, Java, VB or HTML interface with TM1's API (although in most cases why you would want to in most instances given the additional development time is another matter.)

Restricting cell data entry to certain numeric values or certain strings is going to depend on the chosen UI. Not possible in the perspectives cube viewer or web cube viewer but very easily achieved using cell validation in the Excel and websheet interface. The source of the validation list doesn't have to be manual but can also be driven by dimension subsets or attribute lists so a fully automated solution is quite easy achieved.

Thanks. As I thought, not an 'out of the box' option. I guess I'll need to hone my Excel skills.

I wouldn't say it's not out of the box so much as not the out of the box that you are used to working with.
