Admin link - Development vs Production

What is the difference if I set up an admin link to update to a target application as Development vs Production.
I know when I set the target as development, I have to do a gtp. Do I have to do this if I set the target as production?
Is one faster than the other? What is the differences?

the duration is identical. The production link will always kick off a gtp / reconcile job which might take a while depending on your model (size). It might be that you want to load data beside the admin link into your model (e.g. via an Import_Data). In this case you can run the admin link into the development as you'll only need one gtp / reconile instead of two.
