Event Studio Wiping Email Body

Good afternoon (or morning, depending on time zone).

We're trying to use Event Studio after years of not using it (last used before my time) and it has a nasty habit of either deleting or not saving the email body, if the task is to send an email.

What will happen is that I will add text into the email body; some text and a table with the data items inside it. I will save it. Then if I leave that pane by clicking into the event pane or attatching a task or link, when I come back the email body is gone. This will also happen if I save it, close the tab or the browser, and open it up again. The text entered in the email body has vanished.

But it doesn't always happen, which makes me think something else is triggering it to delete and there might be a work around. If the Event Studio is the first thing that is opened in a new browser, there are no other tabs or browsers open, and is closed immediately after saving, ~60% of the time it doesn't delete the email body text when it is reopened or the Event is clicked into from the email page. This makes me think it might be a cacheing issue? This however will not stop it from being wiped if I edit the event in that same session.

I'll keep testing to see if it is any particular one thing causing it, but I would love some advice if anyone has any.

Here is what I know so far:

  • We are running 11.2.2.
  • Plain text, attached events, the subject, the To and CC fields, and anything in the Events or Jobs panes will save correctly and won't wipe.
  • The error occurs on Edge and Chrome.
  • The best results on the body not deleting come from starting the computer, opening the browser, editing the Email task in Event Studio, saving, closing immediately, restarting the computer, and opening the browser and Event Studio again. However, it doesn't always work, is time consuming, and will still wipe if I change into the event tab or try to open another task.
  • Email body will wipe regardless of the length of the text, if tables are there or not, or if data items are present.
  • Other people are having the same issue: https://community.ibm.com/community/user/businessanalytics/discussion/event-studio-email-message-in-html-is-disappearing Someone here suggested that it wouldn't wipe if there is a table with content in it, but that has not worked for me.
  • When closing the Event Studio after the data has been wiped but without doing any changes, it prompts me that my "Changes will not be saved," which makes me think it might be deleting the email body when it is opened. Once when I closed without saving after a wipe, then reopened Event Studio, the text was still there, but disappeared again when I tried to repeat it.
  • If I save with text in the email body, close the Event Studio tab, then open it again and see the email body has disappeared, if I run it from the file explorer, it will come through with the text. Again, making me think it is wiping the email body when I open the email tab.

If I enter the email body last, save immediately, then do not edit or save the job again, it will run correctly with the correct format, but it is not ideal to have to keep backups of event text and lay outs in case we ever need to edit it, y'know?

Thank you for bearing with me through my wall of text; trying to cover all my bases in case any of them offer a hint of what is happening.

Thanks everyone! I hope you are having a great day!

Hi,

It looks to be what I used to call a NUF (Negative Undocumented Feature) when I worked for IBM :-) I just looked through the post in the IBM Community, and Trevor Comeau (a current IBMer) confirms he also sees the issue and has logged it as a defect. I haven't seen anything so far to say it is fixed in a newer version of Cognos Analytics, so for now there doesn't seem to be a better solution than entering the email body last and saving it.

Sorry - not the best news for you. Hopefully it will be fixed in an upcoming release.

Cheers!

MF.

I thought that might be the case, but it's great to get confirmation from someone else. Appreciate your time!  :)
