Hi Gurus,

I need an advise weather this is possible or not.
Can i have a report currently in ver 11.1.7 be copied to a server with 11.0.13.

In line with this, I was trying to import a report from 11.0.13 going into 11.1.7 but making sure the selection to upgrade the specification is not selected. Then export back this report from 11.1.7 to 11.0.13.

The problem is, any content archive that comes from 11.1.7 will be rejected by 11.0.13. So im testing now to copy the reports xml instead. My thought was even though the report was imported into 11.1.7, i can preserve the version (11.0.13) and then create a new export from 11.1.7 thingking the report version is still 11.0.13 and import that to our 11.013 server. So far to no avail.

p.s we have reasons for going through the trouble of importing into a higher version and trying to import back.
We lost our 11.0.13 test server the only test server we have is in 11.1.7. Also we are in multi-tenant structure so importing from a backup directly from the 11.0.13 prod server is not possible.

Hi,

You're never going to be able to take a deployment archive from a later version and import it in an earlier version - it simply won't work. If you're going the report XML route it's worth checking if the schema version in the XML (first line) is getting updated to the 11.1.7 number even if the report spec isn't upgraded. If this happens 11.0.13 won't be happy. In the past I have manually changed the schema back and managed to get things to work, but it's always a huge risk. It's not something I would ever recommend, and only to be used as a last-ditch option when you have no other choice. I certainly wouldn't plan to do this as a regular process - it's fraught with danger. If someone accidentally saves a report in 11.1.7 you could then never get that report back into 11.0.13.

I think what I'm really trying to say here is don't do this. In the long run it will be safer and easier to get a test instance running the same version. You could probably install it on a decent spec laptop for very little outlay. It likely wouldn't support many users, but better than nothing.

Cheers!

MF.

MFGF,

Agreed to all.
It really is a last resort, but this will not be for a long run.
Since we are upgrading the last Server to 11.1.7 in May so we still have 1 month to cover customer's deleted content recovery.
I was able to change the schema of a report before but that works from 11 to ver 10. I can't get it to work with 11.17 to 11.0.13 and you are correct the first line of the xml is being updated even if you don't upgrade the report specification.

But i am pushing to bring back a test server now.
Thanks for the feedback.
