Data Module not working following upgrade to Cognos 11.1.7

Hi,

We have recently upgraded our version of Cognos from version 11.1 R2 to version 11.1.7. During testing we have found an issue with one of the new Analytics dashboards which seems to be related to its data module - the dashboard and data module were working fine in the previous version.

When loaded the dashboard gives an error "The column 'PATIENT_ID' of 'DATA' could not be found in the model. Possibly caused by out-of-date query subject definition: 'DATA'"

The data module contains links to several packages, each of which has several tables which are linked together to create views which are used to populate the dashboard. When you go into the data module it has one table which will not preview the data and will not allow you to see the query information about it - everything else displays as expected.

It is a simple view table which joins two different tables based on Patient ID - this seems to be the cause of all the issues.
If you try and edit the join it cannot preview the data and gives the error You can't preview this data
The data contains errors. Please resolve them, and try again. Further details display the following message "XQE-PLN-0248 The column 'PATIENT_ID' of 'DATA' could not be found in the model. Possibly caused by out-of-date query subject definition: 'DATA'"

Interestingly if you swap the left and right tables around in the join the data previews in this section but when you click next you get the same "Cannot preview the data" error.

We cannot seem to figure out the issue and have tried re-publishing packages and re-linking modules all to no effect.
If you create a new data module based on the same packages the join can be created with no issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Alex

xray

During our upgrade we had similar issues. Many of them involved the definition of columns in the tables not having the correct usage or column dependencies from our migration. I don't know the construct of your Patient_ID or DATA, but you may want to ensure they're defined Identifier and they aren't Measures on your column dependencies. Once we corrected those our dashboards and reports using those columns were fine.

Did you do an "Over the top" installation or a completely new one ?

Thanks for the responses - it was an over the top install

I had issues doing an "Over the top" installation to 11.1.7 using the old content store so I ended up having to create a new content store and from inside Cognos Administration portal import the Deployment file. So if you still have access to your old environment do an Deyploment job to export the content store and import that to your new Cognos installation that now uses an empty Content Store.

Thanks for the replies all. We've found the issue: The issue has come down to a determinant in the framework on the field that was identified in the error message. For some reason 11.1.2 was OK with it, but 11.1.7 isn't. We removed the determinant, published the package and the dashboard\data module is now working.
