Hello,

I recently migrated from Cognos 10.2.1 to CA11.1.2 and I'm having trouble when trying to add a nested second category in a legacy chart.  The charts migrated from 10.2.1 have this functionality working, but when I create a new chart and try to add a second category in CA11.1.2 the only option is to add it next to the existing one, but not below (nested).

I am not sure if I cannot find the right spot to nest the second category or it's a bug in 11.1.2. Any help in relation to this would be great.  The only work around I can think of is to create the chart in 10.1.2 and copy the HTML into 11.1.2

Hi,

This looks to me like a defect. I would log it with IBM support. In the meantime, one possibility would be to manually hack the report XML, but it's ugly and dangerous, so it might not be an option you'd want to use.

Cheers!

Hi srmoure,

This is a defect and IBM support says it is fixed in R4 (next release) and there is a workaround.

When in edit mode, select More (little gear top right) -> Options, and on the report tab uncheck Enable guided report layout.

You will still receive an error when nesting the data item, but it will allow you to and the report will run.

PH16433: UNABLE TO NEST DATA ITEMS IN CHART TYPE CLUSTERED BAR CHART is created.

Thanks!!!

Many thanks !!! this workaround worked as charm.

By the way, did you have any issue with the size of the fonts for the nested category ?  It seems the font size setting only applies to the first category and the nested one is defaulting to "auto"

Haven't tried modifying font sizes. will give it a try.

Thanks!!!
