DR - Need to display Current/Previous Period(year/month/days)data in line chart

Hi All,

We are trying to built a report out of dynamic cube. I am fairly new to Dimensional reporting and on the learning curve.

The requirement is to display Current Period and Previous period data in a single graph (as attached in the screenshot).

And the date range will be decided at the run time by the user - He can select 15 days (current period - 15 days user selected and Previous period - date_1 to start date-1) or a month or 2 months or 6 months and so on.

The category displayed in X axis of the graph should be based on Current Period while the data plotted should have both Current Period and Previous period.

Is there an easier way to achieve this functionality?
Are there any specific function to be used?
Some other forums suggest to do report level union to achieve this functionality.Is it a right approach to go for Report level Union for dimensional model /Dynamic Cube?
Will it cause any performance impact with report level union?
