Crosstab Define Contents Renders Empty Cell

Hello,

I have a crosstab in Report Studio for which I want to override the contents in the summary cell for one of the columns. This column contains an average, and when Cognos summarizes it, it displays the average of averages, which is incorrect. I created a data item with an expression total(numerator)/total(denominator) and set the aggregate properties to calculated and gave it the highest solve order. It displays the correct value in a singleton outside of the crosstab. However, if I set the Define Contents property to Yes for the summary cell, and place the singleton in it, the cell is blank when I run the report. If I place the data item in the cell without a singleton, I get an error RSV-0003, data item can not be found in the query. Please help, I am at my wits end. I even tried adding the summary value as a new column in the cross tab and hiding the cells with the box type none property but that messed up the header alignments for the columns.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I'm not sure if this will help because it does not work all the time for me  and I haven't figured out why it works some times and doesn't work other times. Sometimes if I place the data item as a column in the crosstab and place it also in the define content property and hide the column it will show in the cell.

Hi,

I've done some more checking into this issue and at least I've found out why sometimes the contents of the defined cell will not render for me. Since I'm not sure that my previous explanation was intelligible at all, I've posted a How to in my blog so anyone interested can find a detailed explanation of how to use the Define Contents property and why it will no render sometimes.
Here is the link http://micognos.blogspot.com.es/2016/06/how-to-use-define-contents-in-crosstab.html
Hope it helps.

I have exactly this same problem.

I have tried to follow the instructions you have in your blog, but 1/2 of the images seem to be missing, or at least not able to display.  :(

In any case, I have the following crosstab (Attached)

I have removed the <#1234#> from the %/Total cell and changed it to Defined Contents, then added my new % Subtotal field as a column to the crosstab, then added it to the cell I previously cleared.  Now all I am getting as zeros, which is actually the filler value for an empty cell.

Any thoughts?  I've been banging my head against this wall for over 8 hours.

Thanks

Gordon

I faced the same issue. After adding to the node properties it worked fine.

I am having the same issue. No matter what I put in the cell it renders empty. What do you mean "adding to the node properties"?

Update: I see what you mean. You need to click the actual node (in my case was "Total") then go to data>properties and check the box next to the calc.

Thanks.
