Trying to Create 1st Data Module in Cognos 11 Analytics ...
Watched an excellent YouTube video how to do that.

Have uploaded two Excel files (yes, as one worksheet only ... only way it will upload).

Added those 2 Excel files to try to Create a Data Module, and click the "Start" Button, but "Working" runs nonstop.

The Excel files (as Test) are only ..
1 - 4 Columns of 58 rows
Columns are ... Level 1 Name - Incident Internal ID - Location Code - Date Of Incident
2 - 3 Columns of 5 rows ...
Columns are ... Level 1 Name - Location Code - Date Of Incident

CANNOT get past "Working" to see a Diagram to set Joins and Cardinality.

Anyone created an Analytics Data Module yet, and any issues?

TIA, Bob

Yes, each file has to have only one worksheet.

I can't say that I've encountered the problem you are seeing.  Mind you, I don't recall seeing any message that says 'working' any time that I imported data sources.

So you're saying there's a toast that won't go away?  Can you see the files in the sources pane?  Is there an Ok or cancel button on the toast?

When you uploaded the files did any thing unusual happen?   Did you get to the data refiner page?

Here's some things to try.
1.
Open the p2dpd_messages.log file in the server log directory and look for messages that might be relevant. If you're using 11.0.7 use the cognosanalytics.log file.

2.
Look in the browser's console and network debug and see if there's information that might be relevant.

3.
Create a new tab, create a module, import one of the files, and look in the sources pane for the file.  Try that with the other file.  Try to create a dashboard from the uploaded files and see if you can use them.

We subscribe to an App whose, perhaps their best BI guy, is in India (9 hours ahead of us).  He will reply about 4 or 5 hours from now.

I will run your suggestions (THANK you) by him tomorrow.

I wonder if there could be an Excel incompatibility problem between the 2 files ...
1 - One file runs from an 11 Analytics List (Cognos runs as Excel 2007 [or other?] format).  We then Save As in Office 365.
2 - Other file originates from another US State from what had to originate as an "older" Excel release.  We also Save As in Office 365.

Could there be Excel file format differences in the 2 files that confuses 11 Analytics Creating a Data Module?

I'm USA Eastern time.  I will post again by Noon tomorrow w/ what the India guy says ...  he's Excellent.

We WILL find the Solution and learn from that.

This Morning we have reached out to the App's Company.

We have tried a very simple 2-row/ 3-column Excel file, both as .xlsx
and .csv (to remove any formatting issues) then saved as .xlsx.

We have NO problems uploading Excel files to My Content.

Attempts to Create a Data Module from any of the Excel files, for now, is
ALWAYS resulting in a "Working" that runs nonstop.

We have sent your suggestions from last night to the App's Company, and
are depending on them to check any loaded files they loaded when adding
Cognos as the Reporting Tool.

Will add more info as it becomes available.

Thank you, Bob

We think App's Company has some sort of restriction that prevents us from Creating a Data Module.

That will be checked early next week, and I will update here.

For the App's Company, running it under Chrome (rather than Internet Explorer) solved the problem.
