Possible to use a SharePoint file as External Data Source

Hello to all Cognos experts,

I have a user that would like to use an Excel SharePoint file as the source for their External Data file.  Specifically meaning the file name when browsing for the External Data would be something like... https://company123.sharepoint.com/teams/PAC/BPI/_layouts/15/guestaccess.aspx?guestaccesstoken=qvt0aQC0hON%27&rev=1

The idea here is to skip the step of downloading the file and placing it on a local network drive.  Does anybody know if this is possible/not-possible?   

I also welcome any comments or suggestions for those using the External Data Sets functionality.  Do you share the reports?  Issues with data governance?
