I've set up an extra content manager server to pick up if the primary one fails.
I've manually failed the primary one but the backup isn't taking over right away.

Before I start hacking it apart can anyone tell me how long it normally takes before the backup content manager comes into play?

Hi,

This is the kind of odd behaviour you can see if the clocks on the main and standby content manager servers are not synchronised. Take a look at page 107 of the Administration and Security Guide:

http://public.dhe.ibm.com/software/data/cognos/documentation/docs/en/10.2.2/ug_cra.pdf

Also, take a look at the advanced synchronisation settings you can configure - these are on page 108.

Cheers!

So not happening instantly is odd behaviour?
I wasn't sure if would take 20 seconds or 3 minutes or 10 minutes or what really?

Is it supposed to be instant then?

Hi,

As per page 108 of the manual above, it's configurable:

CM.CMSync_NegotiationTime
Specifies in milliseconds the length of time that it takes to determine the active
Content Manager when a failover occurs.
The valid settings are 1 to 9223372036854775807. The default is 2000.
