I know you can deliver a report by e-mail, to a printer, or save a report to a Cognos Folder.  Does anyone know of a way to save a report to a network share drive automatically?  Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi gatorfe  ,

Please go to Cognos Connection page -> Tools-> Server Admin -> Services -> Content Manager -> Edit -> Override values
Please type in CM.outputlocation in the next cell type in Network place/path where you want to save report output.

for cognos 8 MR2 in cognos config , under data access tab you will have to say 'Yes' for save output to file system & restart server.

Hopefully this was solution that you were looking for  ;D

I also wanted to do this.

Snadgir30,

I  have now done this like you suggest.  The filename is generated is not  useful in identifing the file.  Also it seems to be a global setting rather than on a report by reports basis.  Can the name be changed ? Can we process the file by this name and can we save different reports to different areas ?

Hi

There is a script available on the Cognos Knowledge base to rename the output files. It saves 2 x outputs (1 x XML and 1 x mht or pdf etc). The actual report name is held in the xml file.

The Cognos Knowledge base article reference is 1030859.3
(Java sample to rename saved report outputs at the file system
)

Thanks for the info.  Under the Schedule/Delivery of the report do i choose Save Report and that is the option that sends it to the network location I setup based on your instructions?

Yes.  Choosing the "Save the Report" delivery option will tell Cognos to create the files, once you have enabled Cognos via configuration, to save to a file.

If you are bursting, this will also signal Cognos to save to the file system.
