Need help Gurus..

1.   Is it possible to have a Master filter on Cognos Workspace for a Data Item that is not displayed in any of the Widgets?
Note: It is available in the final query of all the widgets but not pulled on to the report page.

2.   Is cascade prompt possible in Cognos Workspace.

Hi,

Do you really mean "Master Filter" or are you referring to a Select Value Filter?

Master filters were introduced in 10.2.2, and mean you can use the displayed items in one widget (the Master) to filter the other widgets - simply by clicking on the desired value(s) in the Master widget. It therefore follows that only items displayed in the Master widget are available - how can you click on an item in that widget if it isn't being displayed?

Select Value filters are different. You can use these to filter on items not displayed in the widgets on the page - if you have defined the underlying reports appropriately. The mechanism for doing this is different for reports from dimensional packages vs reports from relational packages - you haven't indicated which you are using.

For reports from dimensional packages, simply drag the members you want to filter on into the context area at the top of the page, then save the report. Drag the report object (list/crosstab/chart etc) into a workspace and the item(s) in context should be available for use in Select Value Filters.

For reports from relational packages, you need to add an extra query to the report. The query needs to have a specific name (and it is case sensitive) - it needs to be called _BusinessInsight_
Drag the item(s) to filter on into this query, as well as into the query/queries for your report objects (list/crosstab/chart etc). Save the report, then drag the report object(s) into a workspace. You should then be able to filter on those non-displayed items with Select Value Filters.

Cheers!

Thanks MF for the inputs.

I have both Relational as well as Dimensional Package.
The dimension in here I am talking about is Products which has 3 levels (Level1, Level2, Level3).
I understood how to bring in data items that are not part of the List/Crosstab/Chart.
But now what I want is a Cascade Prompt on Product (Level1Level2 Levle3) to be placed on the Workspace.
Request your expertise.

Select Value filters don't cascade, sadly.

Create a cascade prompt in report studio and then bring it into cognos work space.
