Hi all,

I'm new to Query Studio (I've only worked with Report Studio before) - some of my users have the need for ad hoc reports they run themselves, so I am starting to work with QS.   I have a question.  How do you creating running totals inside grouped columns with a final total at the bottom.  This is fairly easy in Report Studio, but seems murky at best in Query Studio.  Maybe it's not even possible?

Since Query Studio is officially being deprecated (unavailable) after 10.2.2, I would strongly advise you to look at Workspace Advanced instead.

oh wow.  I didn't know that.   If I need ad-hoc capability for reporting, will I have to use Workspace Advanced now?   I've got a bunch of practice stuff in Report Studio.  How easy/hard is it to migrate that into Workspace Advanced?

Workspace Advanced is pretty easy to pick up. But it is not designed to replace Report Studio, which is not being deprecated.

They share the same spec, so you can open reports in WSA using Report Studio, and vice versa.

Ok thanks, I will wade and poke around with Workspace.   Why did Cognos do away with Query Studio?

ry1633

thanks this is good info to have.  I've only started learning Cognos so I don't any reports built in Query Studio yet (I was just playing around with it).  My org may have need some adhoc reporting so I will delve into Workspace some more.

A quick reply on terminology...

I'm sure you know this already, but Cognos Workspace exists, and is a very different product. What we're talking about here is Cognos Workspace Advanced.

I didn't have the link to hand when I last posted, but here's the official message on AS & QS deprecation from IBM Cognos:
