Formatting an excel report coming from Analysis Studio

Hello All,

I have a few Analysis Studio reports coming of from a Transformer build cube. End User requirements
of suppressing zeros and negative numbers to be converted into parenthesis are not being met in Analysis Studio.

For this I am planning to create a macro to call the exs saved and modify them.

need some inputs to such a macro. Or if someone has written something similar it will be of great help. I did write a macro in excel to format negative numbers, but unable to replicate the same in Cognos Script!.

Can anyone provide some help?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Aman

Hi,

I'm probably being utterly stupid here (which is a normal state of affairs for me!), but why don't you use Report Studio to create the reports?  The functionality you require (formatting negatives etc) is available in Report Studio, and much more!

CognosScript was the macro language applicable to the Series 7 products (Impromptu, PowerPlay etc) but it is not used with Cognos 8.  The Cognos 8 equivalent is to use your favourite development language (C++, Java, VB etc) and the Cognos 8 Software Development Kit to modify the report specifications stored in the Content Store database, if this is what you really need to do.

Best regards,

MF.

Hi MF,

I wish my requirement could have been met from Report Studio! The report is much too complex with a hierarchy having totals in between, tried the same in Report Studio, but failed!

So had to go Analysis Studio way which is a buggy tool!

Thanks for replying anyway.

Aman

Ouch! AS buggy? Sure. But try yourself to cram that much functionality into a web application. RS not heaving enough options to meet report requirements? Common, give us a break ... It is more flexible then a palm tree on a hurricane night ...

Creating a product hierarchy with totals and combination of different levels into one were part of the hierarchy!
I built custom sorting on the product and region hierarchies after grouping.
some 40 odd measuresneeded to be rolled up and summarized accordingly at region level!
there were 4 reports to be shown using conditional layout.

Problem arose with the product hierarchy as measure values were not properly rolled up and summation n between product hierarchy did not show up!

Report was coming from a cube so AS was a better choice or a new model to report from RS would have to be built.

I hope now you understand there are some limitations to RS too Administrator!

Not quite sure I'm following you here.  Any package that is available for use in Analysis Studio (your cube?) can also be used in Report Studio.  The truth is that Report Studio actually has more functionality and flexibility than Analysis Studio, so you should be able to create the same results (and much more!) in RS.

If you're struggling to get started with Report Studio, try building the initial analysis in Analysis Studio then use the File/Open in Report Studio option from AS. You can then add in all the relevant formatting once you are in Report Studio.

Best regards,

MF.

We, as in me and my fellow readers here, have done reports in the past in RS, where AS was not capable of specific custom rollups and calculation. Yes, AS is EASIER to do rollups because of it multidimensional approach angle, but same and more can be achieved in RS. Since QS, AS and RS can share the same source, relational or not (THANKS, COGNOS!), like MFGF said, whatever you can do in AS, it can be migrated to RS. Same for QS to RS.
