Cognos TM1 Microsoft Office Integration

I've heard that Cognos TM1 has some features that allow it to integrate with Microsoft Office (especially Excel). My question is, does the TM1 Server need to be installed on Windows in order to integrate with Office?

Are there any Office integration features that we would miss if we installed TM1 on Linux?

The standard TM1 client is Perspectives, which is an Excel Addin. (IBM are working on a successor, CAFÉ, but it's not ready for prime time yet.) Either will work against a TM1 server running on Linux.
