Hi

1.In Cognos, we can show Trendlines in a Chart. But can we modify the existing formula used for plotting the trend?

2.Also is it possible to specify some exclusion period so that trending is not calculated based on those periods (to remove spikes & special events)?

3.Can we do forecasting in CognosReport Studio?

Appreciate your inputs.

Thanks and regards

Hi,

1. I don't believe that's possible, at least not in the version I've got (10.2.0)

2. You can filter the data so that the outliers are removed, but I don't think you can keep them in the data and just remover them from the trend calculation.

3. Can you be a bit more specific? In what way would you like to use RS to do forecasting?

Thanks a lot BigChris.

Regarding forecasting, we need to forecast future values based on the current trend.
Please refer the attached snapshot.

For example say we set a threshold and extend the trendline to intersect the threshold to find an exhaustion date.

Say threshold for the snapshot is 95% and then the availability will reach at  say 10-Oct.

So can this be achieved in Report Studio.

Thanks and regards

I thought that might be where you were heading. I think I've seen the option to display the equation for a trend line in a legend, but I might be imagining that...or possible confusing it with Excel. If you're able to get that you should be able to work out when the threshold is breached, but I can't see anything in Report Studio that would do it automatically...
