Hi Techies,

I have a BIG doubt. I am having Oracle 12c on the ODS [Operational Data Store ] which is located in a server in another country. I have another server where Cognos 10.2 will be installed for development purpose. My question is about configuring the CONTENT MANAGER-> Will it be possible to directly configure the content manager with the Oracle installed in the ODS or Do I need to install Oracle in the development server for using the content manager?

BTW, if it is possible to use the ODS it will be a great help bcoz then I will not to synchronize the development server with ODS server.

Please help, guys!!!

Cheers
SKC.

In theory your content manager can be configured to communicate with a content store database in Oracle anywhere your network connection allows you to connect to. You would need to make sure you have a dedicated database or schema in Oracle that can be used as a content store, and you would need to check carefully whether the network latency is suitable for having your content store in a remote location.

Hello Cognos_Sourabh,
It appears from your question that you want your content store to be located on this Oracle Database Server. If Yes, first you will need a schema created for content store purposes(For cognos to create its content store tables once the services start up).
On the content manager server, you will need to have the Oracle client installed and the connection information for your content store database provided in the TNSNAMES.ORA file(If that is the connectivity route you want to take). Every TNSNAMES.ORA entry has a SID whcich identifies the connection. The schema name, its password and the SID name from the TNSNAMES.ORA file will then suffice for you to connect to the Oracle database. Please refer to the installation and configuration documentation for cognos. You also need to move over some JAR files from the Oracle client installation to the LIB directory in the cognos installation. All this is provided in the installation and configuration document.
As MFGF mentioned you may want to measure the network latency and the effects of having such a remote content store talking to the content manager.
