[CC] How do I create portlet that shows 1 report only

Please ignore mu previous two inquiries today. I have been able to formulate the proper question.

I am trying to create a portlet in Cognos 8 to mimic what I was doing in 1.1. In CC1.1 I could create a portlet, select a report from a folder, and thus the user could ONLY select that report to run it. We have several of these on a screen.

In CC 8, I can create the portlet as a Cognos Navigation portlet in which I can start at the the place where the report resides. The thing is I can't seem to have the portlet be just for that specific report, CC 8 will have you select the folder where the report resides and that's it. Thus when you are looking at the portlet, you will see the report listed but you can navigate back to other folders in the cognos directory which I don't want the user to be able to do . Either I'm missing something or CC8 is different than CC 1.1

If someone can help me with this one, let me know.

keep in mind when I say I want to see one report, I mean, 1 report name before it is run, that the user would click on to run/view the report. I don't mean 1 report from the report viewer portlet. I also know that I can create a bookmark and list the report through the bookmark portlet but that's not what I want to do because that has to be in a certain format.

I messed around a bit and the best I could do was you would have to create a shortcut to the report(s) and put them in their own folders and point your nav portlet to that folder. That way you would still have the functionality normally shown with reports without having to duplicate the reports.

I did the shortcut, and that will in general accomplish what I am trying to do, I'm suprised someone acutally made sense of my explanation.

Do you think there is a way to get rid of the "Entries" , the "go to" arrow, and the scroll arrows above the report?

If that can be done, then we can make our portlets look just like they did in CC 1.1

Sorry I replied to you other posting without seeing this one.  You could use some old HTML techniques or throw in some javascript to fancy it up.

One of the solutions I enjoyed using was creating a portal tab that contained an HTML viewer.  This worked in our environment because the user base was allowed to see all of the reports in this portal tab.  The HTML viewer had a web page that loaded the reports from one frame to the other allowing for a customized Cognos Navigator using the report URL's.  I had to move away from this though when security got involved.

Now I'm using reports that contain HTML items that use the query subjects in a package to manage security.  Its quite slick. I just haven't been able to manage to work out doing it with frames at this time.  Its just a thought to ponder.

I'm quite sure there are slick ways to get this done. But since I am still learning to fly this "Cognos Helicopter". I wanted to make sure there wasn't some simple concept I missed.

I'm trying to find out why is it different in the CC 8 platform anyway. Is it because CC 8 utilizes a more "real world" type of navigation . In CC 1.1 you could select report, folder, or something else to be placed in the portal. Now it only seems to do a folder. Even when you play around with the "parent in path" check box when you edit the portal info would prevent any navigation but that is not the case. So for the time being, unless I find approach I am going to go with the shortcut in it own folder approach and try to find as you said, some slick way of getting rid of that greyed out navigation stuff.
