What do you do to make a dashboard look like WOW!! to a customer?

In my humble experience, the biggest WOW! factor is created when you demonstrate that the dashboard answers a key business pain they have been unable to resolve or identify previously. Now they can see real value. They can finally see where/why they are losing revenue/profit/headcount or why their costs are spiralling out of control. Often it doesn't have to look flashy, just to solve an issue that is hurting their business.
