Hi,
I am seeing warning message in the cogserver log file as 'secure error - did not find userCapabilities' . I have full access to the 'Detail Error Messages' capability.
Can someone please suggest what might be the reason.
Environment : Cognos 10.2.2
OS: Window 2012 R2

Thanks!

Hi,

The cogserver.log file logs messages for the entire Cognos server, not just one specific user. My guess is that although your user might have the Detail Error Messages capability granted, there are probably other users who do not? Is that a possibility?

we gave execute permissions only for System administrators assuming that any errors related to reports executed by any users will be visible to admins. Am I wrong?

Hi,

If an error occurs for a user and they don't have the Detail Error Messages capability, they see a message displayed that says "DPR-ERR-2082 An error has occurred. Please contact your administrator. The complete error has been logged by CAF with SecureErrorID: timestamp-#number", and at the same time an entry is added to cogserver.log "secure error - did not find userCapabilities" to indicate that the user did not have the capability to view their detailed error message. I believe this is what you are seeing. Granting the Detailed Error Messages capability to System Administrators will not make any difference - anyone who belongs to the System Administrators role has all capabilities for everything, regardless of what is granted or denied. To prevent these messages appearing in cogserver.log, your regular users would need to have this capability granted, and it would also mean they would see the actual error messages rather than the generic "logged by CAF" message above.

Cheers!

Thanks for explaining !. I will ensure all the users have execute access to detail error message. But is this the good practice?

It depends on whether you want your users to see specific error messages when the occur, or just to see a general message that says "please contact your administrator". Neither option is good or bad - it all depends what you want your users to see.
