P2V of server has some issue Cognos 10.1.1

P2V of Dispatcher server failed to copy whole image.

1.Complete another restore or P2V.  -   the application files were not being copied completely. A restore of the drive has also failed

2.Un-install application -  This can not be done because of all the files and uninstall.exe not being copied during P2V. IBM Cognos is not present in Add/Remove programs to forcefully uninstall Cognos Configuration   

3.Re- format the whole Drive

P2V? Are you setting up a virtual environment? How are you transferring the Cognos media? Does the user you are logged in as have admin privileges?

You can't uninstall Cognos 10 from Add/Remove programs - this feature is not populated in any Cognos 10 install. You need to go to the Start menu and select Programs > IBM Cognos 10 - 64 > Uninstall IBM Cognos > Uninstall IBM Cognos. If you don't have the shortcut in your Start menu, go and run the command "C:\Program Files\IBM\cognos\c10_64\uninstall\uninst.exe" -u "C:\Program Files\ibm\cognos\c10_64\uninstall\uninst.ini" (substitute your own install location if different)

I think they have converted their physical server to virtual server. And now because its not done properly they are facing issue. You can check with team who did this P2V conversion. They must be having some rollback plan for the same. They must be having some other backup of server.

Yup, production backup is very much available..can you suggest what would be best option

1. complete p2v again
2. uninstal and install cognos BI on virtual server - throwing error as uninstall files are missing while p2v
3. format and install on virtual server

Few months ago we had the same activity. Our windows team did P2V for almost 15-20 cognos servers. We did not face any such issue on any server. It means for your case something is going wrong while doing P2V. I would suggest instead of playing with cognos,you should go for backup and complete process again. Whoever is doing this they should follow some best practices and they should be responsible for any such issue.

Thanks for your ideas. The application is working fine now with backup restore of the missing folders.
