Hi all,

After having changed the hostname of my Red-Hat machine I was unable to start cogconfig.sh
and I got this error:

[root@mymachine bin]# ./cogconfig.sh
Using /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0.0/jre/bin/java
log4j:WARN No appenders could be found for logger (Trace.CAM.JCAM).
log4j:WARN Please initialize the log4j system properly.
18/01/2013,23:11:42,Err,CAM-CRP-1057 Unable to generate the machine specific symmetric key.

After some research, I tried different things but to no avail:

  • Delete dirs: C10_INSTALL_DIR/configuration/{encryptkeypair signkeypair} NO EFFECT
  • Delete dir: C10_INSTALL_DIR/configuration/csk NO EFFECT

Thanks for your help!

Problem solved!

After a couple of rounds with IBM,  the very nice guy from IBM support gave me these instructions that SOLVED the problem:

1. Before you delete the following file, make sure you have an un-encrypted cogstartup.xml file. (You can export it from Cognos configuration) If you cannot start the service, please just make a copy of cogstartup.xml file.
2. Make sure to backup file before you delete or simply rename the following files. Delete the following files under <Cognos installation folder>/configuration: csk, encryptkeypair, signkeypair, caSerial and cogstartup.xml and cogconfig.prefs. Delete freshness under <Cognos installation folder>/temp/cam
3. Try if you can start Cognos. If you have the un-encrypted cogstartup.xml file, put that file under <Cognos installation folder>/configuration. If you don't have that file, don't worry about, you can generate a new one.

Cheers!
