Hi there,

We have our reports in a master folder and then created report views of the reports visible to the end users in other folders outside of the master folder. The end users need to schedule reports and therefore need to make a report view of the report view in their My Folders to save their prompts etc so the report will be scheduled and run correctly.

Is there a way to do this?

Thanks in advance as always

Bret

Hi,

No - sadly not. The users would need to copy the report views. The copies will still point to the original reports so will still pick up changes made to the original reports - will this suffice?

I have been tryiong to copy a report but no matter where I navigate to it says Please select a location when I hit ok. How do I save a copy of the report view to the my folders? Also so if I make a change to the master report both the report view and the shortcut to the report view will both be updated?

HI you should be able to just copy and paste the report view to any location you have access to.

You're right the report view will pick up any changes you make to the master report.

I think the only way around that is to have a 'live' version of the master report which the views point to and a dev version where you make any changes.  You'll then have to save the dev version over the live version when you want to promote the changes but you will also need to repoint all the views to the new master, which can be a pain (I haven't found a way of getting around that - I'd be interested if someone has any ideas).

Could you give the users copies of the master report?  They could then schedule that with their prompt selctions and you could send them a new version when you've made changes.

I have tried using the copy /paste buttons as well as the copy option from properties and the create shortcut option from proporties and nohting wirks in terms of letting me copy the report view.

I copy the report and switch to the My Folders and the paste button is inactive and the proprties options just throw a choose a location pop up box whenever I try to hit ok

A report view points to the original report XML definition, but has its own properties and schedule etc. If the original report changes, any report views that point to that report will display the amended report when run.

There is no point creating a shortcut to a report view unless it is to provide easy access to it. Shortcuts cannot have independent schedules.

To copy a report view, put a check to the left of the report view's icon, then press the Copy button onthe Cognos Connection toolbar. Navigate to the folder you want the copy to be in, and press the Paste button.

for some reason the paste option is npot available to paste into My Folders - could I have security screwed up somewhere?

MFGF

Very strange! You shouldn't have any issues pasting items into your My Folders page - you should be defined as its owner. Do you see the same issue logged in under a different user ID? What happens if an Administrator tries to copy the item for you?
