Hello

A project I will be working on shortly involves the following.

Moving from SQL to ORACLE and 8.4.0 FP2 to 10.1.1

After investigation I assume I can do a full deployment export of models and data and CAC objects when in SQL in 8.4.0 FP2.

Setup Cognos Planning to run off oracle and then import the deployment.

Use upgrade tools in 10.1.1 to get from 8.4.0 FP2 in oracle.

Any potential issues I should be aware of?

Thanks

Stuart

Hey Stuart,

Yes you should be able to leverage the deployment facilities within Cognos Connection as well as from within the CAC to accomplish the export functions for this upgrade and migration.  I'm not sure I understand your statement "Use upgrade tools in 10.1.1 to get from 8.4.0 FP2 in oracle" ?

Hi Eric

Shucks, the one part I havent investigated and so took a punt.  You caught me out. :)

I havent yet managed to use 10.1.1 so am assuming there is some sort of upgrade tool as there was in 8.4.0 when moving from 8.1.  PAD Upgrade wizard (Planning Store Upgrade)

Hey Stuart,

No worries ;)

The PAD upgrade wizard is only for upgrades from 8.1 or older.  For versions 8.2+ that you're upgrading you would leverage the deployment feature you've already described.  You'll be creating new users / schemas in Oracle to be used for your content and planning stores.  You'll then populate the CS with a content manager deployment export from 8.4.0.  You'll then populate the new PS with the deployment you take from the live 8.4.0 CAC and this will create all the necessary database users / schemas in Oracle.
