Excel output Header Causes 1 column to be Wide

Since upgrading to version 10 the reports that were built in version 8 are having an issue in the Excel output.  The header spans the list width in the report.  When the report is run to Excel the 1st column width is now coming out as wide as the text in the header.
I have tried putting a table in the header and that did not help.  I tried setting a fixed width on the column and that did not help.
Anyone else seeing this or have a solution?
