Hi,

Currently we are using Cognos 8.4.1 with Oracle 11g database. In future, we might move to Cognos 10.

Could anyone please confirm or resolve following queries:

1) Can we use existing Cognos 8.4.1 FM Model (.cpf) in Cognos 10 FM?
2) Can we migrate all reports, schedules and packages to Cognos 10?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

1. Yes. The model will upgrade as soon as you open it in Cognos 10 Framework Manager, so if you want to continue to use it in Cognos 8 FM, make sure you take a copy.
2. Yes. It's not a migration, it's a simple upgrade. Create a full deployment of your Cognos 8 content store from the Content Administration area, then import this into your Cognos 10 instance. The package and report specs will all upgrade during the import (provided you check the box to upgrade them). You can then use Lifecycle Manager to compare reports in C8 vs C10 to make sure they return exactly the same results.

As an additional step post-upgrade, you can choose to swap the classic charts from C8 for the new, improved charts in C10 on a report-by-report basis if you like.  You can also move across from the Classic Query Mode to the new Dynamic Query Mode too, provided you are reporting off supported DQM data sources.  Lifecycle Manager can be a great help here too.

MF.
