Reporting on Unpublished data

How are people doing reporting against live EP data--data that has not yet been published, or maybe not even submitted?  We've been told that CDS is not stable and to not use it.

We are looking at using Export to Excel and then creating Excel templates and macros.  PowerPlay is not an option as the users want immediate response and highly formatted reports.

Hello sigamy.

Excel seems to be only appropriate variant, especially if you want reports over unsaved data. I'd recommend  looking on Contributor Excel Add-In, and creating a excel book with macros for reports generation over "live" contributor data.

Who told you not to use CDS? It worked rather nice in our test environment, but it was a production testing, CDS doesn't support Cyrillic characters and that makes it inapplicable to us.

CDS is stable but it is not meant to be used as an enterprise reporting tool.  It should be put on its own server and it should not support any more more than 10 concurrent users.  You have to make sure to limit your elists and model size.  You can always use the PowerPlay Client Direct Connect as well as the Contributor Excel Add-In.  What a lot of clients are doing is creating a PowerCube and writings Report Studio reports against that Data.

Stay tuned for trickle publish in the next release.

A сouple of words on that trickle publish would be great.

andrewbho

Trickle publish will allow you to publish Net Changes or changes from your last publish.  This will be able to be scheduled and automated.  So instead of running a full publish and waiting all that time, you can update only the records that have been changed.  That's all that I am allowed to say about it.....

We've created done this outside of the product using VB but it will nice to have something that will be supported.

Did you notify Cognos about the feature you created and that led to inclusion of it into next product version? Or it was a parallel development?
I'm greatly interested in the way it worked for you, since there's an additional feature we've developed and are looking to add to future Cognos releases.

Void- if you send me an email on what you have, id be glad to forward it the product manager.  I can't comment on the rest of it.
