Lifecycle Manager Issue

We are working on an Upgrade Project from 8.4 to 10.1 and are using Lifecycle Manager to test certain packages.  However we are having a few issues.

We setup Lifecycle Manager and initially validated a package fo reports, auto generated reports and run both source and target and compared outputs.  Then we decided to have a look at the various outputs (Excel, HTML) and then decided to go back to PDF.  This was when our problems started:

(i)  Reports that been validating started to get a status of Invalid with what looks like DMR errors.
(ii)  Reports are stating Prompt Values missing.
(iii)  We created a new project for the same suite of reports and they have a status of Prompt Values Missing and 5 amber lights for the progress before we do anything.
(iv)  We also created a new install of Lifecycle Manager on a seperate machine and still experienced the same issues in the previous point.
(v)  When we create a new package we can't validate reports as the Prompt Values are missing and when we go to automatically generate Prompt Values it looks as though it's worked but the prompt values are still listed as missing.

Any ideas?

Stejawh,
Most of what you listed seems like normal usage of the software. Lifecycle manager is not a one button push solution and will take a lot of manual work to validate an entire environment. Here are a few observations from my experience with the software.

  • Reports showed as invalid due to MUN issues from upgraded cubes. This really wasn't the case.
  • Not all prompts can be autogenerated.
  • Lower the number of processes allowed to run or risk taking down the system.

Dan thanks for your reply.

1.  How did you eventually validate these?
2 and 3.  That's the strange thing.  These reports were the same and had validated and had prompts automatically generated when we outputed to pdf first time.  The only thing we changed was the output.

Well, unfortunately like I said a lot of it is going to be manual. So for any reports that use prompts which will not auto-generate you'll need to manually select the prompt values. If for some reason it is showing as invalid then reviewing the output of each will be required. Excluding it from the results is the only way to prevent it from showing as invalid on your reports. Keep in mind that Lifecycle Manager is now offered for free and is really just a re-branded Upgrade Manager that was previously licensed.
