what is the use of .qyi file ? Can we open the qyi file and make changes in it ? Do it take timestamps ?
what i know is that it is the temp file while creating a cube.

Supposedly if your cube build fails you can open the .qyi file and continue the build. However, in more than 5 years of Powerplay bube building the only use I have found for them is to practice file deletions.

The .qyi file is a check point file. So say your power goes out and you haven't saved your your work in a while when you open up Transformer you will get the message 'There are suspended models, would you like to open them'. Basically all your work is saved in this file so you will lose no work.

Ok, makes sense. I only ever thought of them being created during batch cube builds when they are not of much use. I never considered the "power went off while I had Transformer GUI open" use.

Rolinbud's info is correct.  The .qyi file will be automatically deleted if you close the model properly.  If the model is not closed properly, e.g. Windows crashes,  then the .qyi file is available and the next time you open Transformer you get the message to say it has found a suspended model.  The .qyi file provides details of the edits you did during the work session that was aborted and so the suspended model should be your model as it was before the crash.  When you close the model correctly the .qyi is deleted.

In case a model gets too badly corrupted in a Windows crash, it is a good idea to save the model on a regular basis in the .mdl format.  Simple to do from File, Save As, and change the file type.  Normally you should save in .pyi format and use the .pyi version of the model as it is the binary version.  Having an .mdl version gives you a bit of easy backup.
