Hi All,

I'm new to Cognos and for now must learn on an older version. I have a report that was built by someone now long gone that for reasons unknown suddenly started having problems.

I'm confirmed the fields & filter information to be correct and I can see the report is pulling 34 records (via bottom right of screen), and can view the 1st but I'm unable to scroll through the report to view other records.  When I export the report to any format I'm also only given that 1st record.

Anyone see this before or have any ideas about what might be up?

Thanks so much.

Are you trying to view the data in a Form Frame by any chance?  If so, what is the scope of the form frame set to?

well it was set to "all data" and I simply changed it to EAN as we're a book publisher and everything we pull from this DB is tied to the concept of the EAN/ISBN.

that seems to have solved my problem but i wish i understood why?  i suppose i'll learn that when i get some formal Cognos training...i'm having to teach myself for now.

thanks again!

Hi,

A Form Frame will only ever show a single row of data at any one moment. A List Frame will show multiple rows simultaneously. The Scope setting of a Form Frame controls how much data gets retrieved into the Form Frame in one go. If you set the scope to "All Data", then the entire data set is retrieved. The Form Frame at this point will only ever show you the first row of data, but if you added a List Frame inside the Form Frame, all rows would be visible within the list.

If you set the scope to "Records in the group xxxx", then the Form Frame retrieves one set of rows for each value in column xxxx - you then get navigation controls in the corner of the form frame to go to the next/previous grouped item. The Form Frame at this point will show you the first row in each group, but a List Frame within the Form Frame will show all rows within the group.

If you set the scope to "Single row of data", the Form Frame will retrieve a single row at a time. Again, you get navigation controls in the corner, which allow you to retrieve the next/previous row. A List Frame inside the Form Frame at this point would only show the single row retrieved by the Form Frame.

Hope this helps explain things a little!
